Linda Stephenson

Summary Profile

Linda is a commercial law attorney and has a solid knowledge of the Companies Act and Amendment Bill 40 of 2010, the Protection of Personal Information Act, the Labour Relations Act, the Competition Act, the National Credit Act and the Consumer Protection Act.

Her experience in legal practice as well as in house counsel has provided her with a clear understanding of corporate clients’ needs and the commercial risks they face.

Linda prides herself on the commercially viable solutions she finds having considered both the legal and commercial aspects to a situation. In particular, Linda is involved in drafting and vetting commercial contracts, franchise agreements, leases, employment agreements, sale of business contracts, sale of member’s interests in close corporations, setting up new companies, drafting shareholder’s and member’s agreements and advising clients on all commercial and labour law aspects.

Career

After completing her articles, Linda joined Edward Nathan Sonnenbergs in the Commercial Litigation Department where she gained experience in both Magistrate and High Court matters acting for large corporate clients.

Linda has also gained experience working in-house as a legal advisor for both LexisNexis and the New Clicks Group. In these roles she was involved in all aspects of the business including mergers and acquisitions, advising on Competition Act implications, drafting and vetting commercial and IT contracts, compliance, litigation, and general legal advice and opinion.

For example, she was involved with the disposal of Discom to the Edcon Group and the merger by Clicks with Direct Medicines, which required the submission of applications to the Competition Commission for approval of the sale and merger.
