Jeff Boulton

Jeff is based in Johannesburg and is a commercial attorney.

He has a passion for the businesses that he serves, and both as a legal adviser and an attorney has assisted his clients in intellectual property license, franchise and distribution agreements as well as mergers and acquisitions.

Jeff’s commercial practice has grown from drafting agreements for the music business (with clients such as Gallo Record Company, EMI Record Company and Warner Music Gallo Africa) to the television business (with clients such as Ochre Media) to the film business (he worked on films such as the Academy Award winning “ Tsotsi”, and is a present working on “Jock”, the animated feature film based on “Jock of the Bushveld”), to the media business (with clients such as Avusa Media, publishers of Sunday Times and BDFM Publishers, publishers of Financial Mail and Business Day) and lately to the telecommunications sector (with Cell C as a client).

Career

Jeff completed his articles at Deneys Reitz and practised with them until May 1991. After travelling overseas, Jeff returned in April 1992 to join Tusk Music Company, first as Legal Adviser and then as Business Affairs Director.

During February 1997 the assets and liabilities of the Tusk Group were acquired by Gallo (Africa) Limited. Jeff joined the Gallo Group first as Business Affairs Manager, then as a director of Gallo (Africa) Limited. Jeff also became a member of the Executive Committee of ASAMI (now RiSA), the South African recorded music industry body.

In September 2001 Jeff left Gallo to join Bowman Gilfillan Inc. as an Associate, to head up the newly formed Media and Entertainment Department (a division of the Commercial Department). In January 2004, Jeff left Bowman Gilfillan to set up his own practice. In 2011 Jeff joined Dingley Attorneys.

Jeff will run the newly-formed Johannesburg office.
